Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, December 21, 1997 
Cornelius Evans Sr., 62, of the 900 block of Ave. H, died Dec. 15, 1997.

Born in Sumter, S.C., he had retired as an employee of the Hampton Road Bridge
Tunnel, State of Virginia, after 35 years of service. He was a regular church
attendee and was an altar boy at an early age. He attended St. Joseph Catholic
School and was a member of Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception
Church in Norfolk. He was predeceased by his parents, Janie Davis Evans and
Smith Evans.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Evans; four daughters, Maricia Lewis and Janice
Dean, both of Norfolk, Sonja Evans and Gloria Evans, both of Virginia Beach;
four sons, Timothy Evans and Gregory Evans, both of Virginia Beach, Cornelius
Evans Jr. and Walter Marcus Evans, both of Norfolk; three sisters, Sandra
Johnson of Washington, D.C., Preto Porter of South Carolina and Pearlie Percey
of Norfolk; 26 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Joyce
Sharp; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Morris of Norfolk; a daughter-in-law, Gay Evans;
and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Basilica of St. Mary of the
Immaculate Conception Church, 1000 Holt St., Norfolk, by Father Walter Barrett.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. Metropolitan Funeral Home is in
charge. Family and friends will assemble at 1415-A Lois Lane, Norfolk, at noon
Tuesday for the procession to the church.
