He will be greatly missed by his four-legged friends Hanna, Bonnie and Dixie as well. Lee, Dad, DadLee (as he was known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren) is the strength and foundation of our family. Lee's early years were spent in Chester, VA until he moved with his family to Norfolk at age 11. Henry (as he was known in high school) went to Norview High School where he became a star basketball player. It was also at Norview where his life would change forever when he met his best friend, soul mate, and future wife, Arlene. Through the years, there was never a time that Arlene walked into a room that Lee's eyes would not turn to her with pride at the strength and beauty that she brought to his life. Lee was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church for most of his adult life. Lee worked for 45 years as a union electrician where he was affectionately known as "Hot Dog". He worked for IBEW Local 80 where he rose to the presidency until his retirement at age 62. Lee also touched many lives through his 40+ years coaching young people in basketball, football, baseball, and softball at Christ the King, Bishop Sullivan High, Portsmouth Catholic, and the Azalea Little League. He was also a founding member of the Azalea Little League and instrumental in bringing Little League baseball to Norfolk. He was also a member in good standing with the of Knights of Columbus Council 367. Lee was also deputized as an Auxiliary Police Officer in the City of Norfolk. In retirement Lee found immense pleasure at his second home on Buggs Island Lake. Lee also walked in excess of four miles a day through his neighborhood where he was affectionately known as "the vice-mayor of Winona". Additionally, Lee would keep himself busy with his penchant for tinkering with mechanical devices. Lee was a hands-on man who could fix anything from lighting fixtures and motors to furniture and automobiles. This can be especially seen in his extensive collection of clocks throughout his homes. Lee never met a stranger and everyone was always welcome at his house. He was well respected and loved by everyone he met. Lee will be missed by his family and all of his friends and neighbors in Winona, at Christ the King, and Sunset Cove. The family wishes to thank all of our friends and neighbors for their kind considerations and many prayers. We especially thank Dr. David Grulke and Dr. Stewart Shepherd and the professionals at Sentara Home Health Care. Please join the family in the joyous celebration of Lee's life. There will be a Christian Wake service on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection honoring Lee's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Christ the King Catholic Church at 1803 Columbia Ave in Norfolk. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, followed by a gathering in the commons at Christ the King. In lieu of flowers, Lee requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society, Lee's Friends (Cancer Support Group) at 7400 Hampton Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23505, or to the Christ the King Building Fund.
