He was employed as a bookkeeper and clerk with a number of Norfolk companies. He spent nine years with the Virginian Railway Company (1951-1960), serving as Chief File Clerk, Trace Clerk, Quotation Clerk, Tariff Complier and Executive Divisions Clerk. When the Virginian merged with the Norfolk and Western, Wallace Face chose to remain in Norfolk rather than to move to the N&W headquarters in Roanoke, Virginia. Wallace Face later worked with the College of William and Mary (Norfolk Division), F.S. Royster Guano Company and MediCenters of America, Inc. He graduated from Maury High School in 1942 and attended the Norfolk division of the College of William and Mary in 1946-48 and 1949-50. He also completed courses with the American Institute of Banking (Norfolk) and Kee's IBM Data Processing (Norfolk). Wallace Face served in the Army from February 10, 1943 to November 3, 1945. He served in the European Theater of Operations from December 1943 to October 1945. He was assistant to the American Red Cross Field Director, 474 Infantry Regiment. He was an active and devoted organist in Norfolk Episcopal Churches. He served as the organist and choirmaster at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (1968-1970) and held the same position at the Church of the Ascension (1950-55 and 1960-67). He was the assistant organist at St. Andrew's from 1955 to 1960. He served as the treasurer of the American Guild of Organists, Norfolk Chapter. Wallace Face was devoted to his family and took responsibility for numerous widowed relatives in their later years. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Dr. Edward Gill Face, Jr. (1916-1951) and George Staylor Face, II (1920-1922). Wallace Face died of congestive heart failure in his home in the Ghent section of his beloved Norfolk.
