The investigation of Coroner Kight and the inquisition that followed during the day showed that death was due to natural causes and that Fairfield was a sufferer from chronic malaria. The verdict of the jury was to the effect that he came to his death from natural causes. The body is being held at the morgue awaiting a claimant. When seen by a Virginian-Pilot reporter Coroner Kight said his investigation showed that several days ago Fairfield applied to the free dispensary for treatment and was sent to St. Vincent's hospital for medical attention, such as was deemed needed. Fairfield would not remain at the institution, leaving in a few hours of his own accord, and evidently going to the lodging house where he was later found. His leave-taking against the rules of the hospital precluded his return to the institution and he was sent to the jail hospital Monday night, where he died.
