FANTONE John S. Fantone, 78, husband of Ida Hardin Fantone and son of the late Capt. Peter and Martha Butt Fantone, a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, died at 3 o'clock this morning at the residence, 1721 East Olney Road. Besides his wife, Mrs. Ida Hardin Fantone, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George Pistorius, of Norfolk; Mrs. Oscar Keely, of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Festus Thompson, of Norfolk; six sons, Claude B., James E., Hugh F., William H., Caroleen H. and Joseph J. Fantone, all of Norfolk; 35 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. William M. Newstead, of Norfolk. Mr. Fantone was a retired cotton weigher. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. FUNERALS JOHN S. FANTONE Funeral services for John S. Fantone, whose death occurred Thursday morning at the residence, 1721 East Olney Road, were held at 10 o'clock this morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev A. Preston Campbell, officiating, the Rev. E. A. Brosnan, the Rev. A. J. Taylor, the Rev. Emmett Gallagher, the Rev. Leo J. Ryan, the Rev. M. J. Harrison, the Rev. John Kociela and Brother John Fedelis, C. F. X., president of St. Mary's Industrial School, of Baltimore, Md., were present in the sanctuary. During the service, a solo, "As Yearns the Heart," was sung by Norman Fantone, a grandson of the deceased. Several selections were also rendered by the choir of St. Mary's Academy, with Miss Anna Gargano, accompanist. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings. The casket was covered with a pall of pink roses, sweet-peas, carnations and ferns. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were John H. Rodgers, George F. Moss, W. B. Bassett, James F. Moore, Charles C. Grant, John S. Jenkins, Jr., C. B. Bassett, Joel H. Harris, S. W. Harris, George Hogan, H. C. Smither, W. S. Ferguson, R. Gregory Hill, John H. Thompson, James L. Black and Dr. Albert G. Horton. Active pallbearers were: John B. Lascara, Joseph Demma, E. B. Sams, J. Edgar Winter, Walter J. Johnson, Festus Thompson, Wm. H. Fantone, Jr. and John S. Fantone. At the conclusion of the mass, Rev. E. A. Brosnan explained the mass and spoke of his esteem and affection for the Fantone family. Services at the grave were conducted by the Rev. A. J. Taylor, of Hot Springs, Va., and the Rev. Emmett Gallagher, of Staunton, Va.
