Farren, former sergeant of the police, and one of the best known citizens of Norfolk, died last night at 7:45 o'clock at the residence, 1109 Falkland Street. He was a native of Ireland, but had been a resident of Norfolk for the past seventy-two years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary K. Farren; two stepsons, Charles B Moore, of Newport News and Thomas E. Moore, of Norfolk; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Eva M. Hamilton, of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. John Moore, of Petersburg, Va. and a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ************************************************************************** The funeral of James P. Farren took place yesterday morning at Saint Mary's Catholic Church and was conducted by Rev. Joseph Rooney, assisted by Monsignor O'Farrell, of Saint Mary's and Rev. Father Irwin of North Carolina. Mrs. James Hughes sang "Abide With Me." Burial was in Saint Mary's Cemetery, the pallbearers being: F.M. Barron, J.M. Brennan, L. Knapp, J.W. Walker W.O. Williamson and J.F. Tatem, all being police sergeants.
