Fentress, 97, Operated Firm in '20s Capt. Isaac Newton Fentress, 97, owner and operator of Peoples Navigation Co. until his retirement in 1928, died in a Norfolk hospital Monday at 9:04 p.m. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Bettie Taylor Fentress and a son of David and Mrs. Susan Sanderlin Fentress. A native of Currituck County, he lived here 76 years, lately with a son, Robert P. Fentress, at 206 Oak Grove Road. He was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church, Men's Bible Class and a 60 year member of Atlantic Masonic Lodge 2. He worked at Craig Shipyard during World War II. Besides his son, he is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Edward C. Johnston and two great-grandchildren, Edward Callender Johnston and Miss Nancy Taylor Johnston, all of Norfolk. A funeral service will be conducted in Norfolk Chapel of Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Wednesday at 3 p.m. by Dr. William L. Lumpkin of Freemason Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
