Norfolk - Merkey Fentress of 1812 Barre St. died August 24 in a hospital 
after a long illness.

A native of Princess Anne County, he was a son of the late Merkey and Mrs. 
Patient Fentress ad the husband of the late Mrs. Clara Fentress.

He was a retired stevedore and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Frances Jones of Norfolk, Mrs. Bernice 
Burnette of Baltimore, Mrs. Louise Lloyd of Arizona, and Mrs. Beatrice 
Gaines of Philadelphia;  a son, Merkey Fentress of Chesapeake;  two sisters, 
Mrs. Elizabeth Chandler of Philadelphia and Mrs. Louise Logan of Geneva NY;  
a brother, James Fentress of Salisbury MD;  20 grandchildren;  and 14 great-
grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete;  Hale Funeral Home was in charge.
