Fentress Sr., 76, of the 700 block of Donnington Drive, a retired fireman, died Dec. 31, 1993, in Norfolk. Mr. Fentress was born in Norfolk and retired from the Norfolk City Fire Department in 1975 after 25 years. He was a member of Chesapeake First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was the widower of Elva (Teenie) Lee Fentress. Survivors include five daughters, Elva M. Evans, Claudia C. White and Nancy L. Fentress, all of Chesapeake, M. Estelle Todd of Suffolk and Betty Anne Ashe of Virginia Beach; a son, Ernest C. Fentress Jr. of Chesapeake; a brother, William Whitehurst of North Carolina; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Riverside Memorial Park by the Rev. Wayne Sawyer. The family will be at the home of Elva M. Evans, 605 Resh Court, Chesapeake. Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
