R. FENTRESS, PILOT PRINTER, DIES AT AGE 63 BEGAN WORK WITH LANDMARK; FUNERAL SERVICES SET TOMORROW J. Russell Fentress, 63, veteran printer for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, died unexpectedly of a heart attack yesterday at 11:55 a.m. at De Paul Hospital. He had been in the hospital for examination to determine possible injuries suffered in a fall Wednesday night. Mr. Fentress, who had had 43 years experience as a printer, first began work with the old Norfolk Landmark. Since then, except for a while with the Norfolk Ledger-Dispatch and a year each in Trenton, N. J., and Washington, he had been with the Virginian-Pilot. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Harry Nash Fentress and Mrs. Addie Battley Fentress. He resided at 437 West 31st Street. His family now is at 208 Carlisle Way. One of Mr. Fentress' co-workers, who had worked with him for 28 years, described him as a man known for his generosity and friendliness, adding, "I never met anyone with a finer disposition. He had many friends and not an enemy." Mr. Fentress, called "Pete" by his friends, was a member of the Norfolk- Portsmouth Typographical Union No. 32. His co-worker, who said he was a consistent union man, added, "He always stood for what he thought was right." Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Queena Prince Fentress, one son, J. Russell Fentress, Jr.; a daughter, Mrs. W. G. Moore; four grandchildren, J. Russell Fentress, III, Nana Jane Fentress, Mary Q. Moore and Patricia Ann Moore, and two nephews, all of Norfolk. Rosary services will be held tonight at 8 o'clock at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. DIED J. RUSSELL FENTRESS, SR., husband of Mrs. Mary Queena Prince Fentress, and son of the late Harry Nash and Mrs. Addie Battley Fentress, in the 64th year of his age. Remains will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for services Monday at 10 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.
