He was a resident of Chesapeake Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center since January, 2005. Born in Norfolk, Va., to the late Sarah Troutman, he was a product of Norfolk City Schools. He later attended Virginia State College and became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was a member of the Brown Bombers, a football team recently inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. He served his country in World War II. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 37 years. He married the late Georgia Otelia Daniels. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute St. for 44 years. He was an award-winning artist that painted under the name B'ive. He and his art was the subject of three newspaper articles and a gallery exhibition. He was active in the Norfolk Senior Center. He is survived by his children, Melvin J. Ferebee Jr. (Michelle) of Hampton and Jacqueline F. Greene (Rodney) of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Melvin J. Ferebee III (Jasmine), Michael P. Ferebee and Taylor H. Ferebee; two step-grandchildren, Rodney E. Greene Jr. and Keisha J. Greene; one step-great-grandchild, Madison; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mable Daniels of Chesapeake; two godchildren, Ms. Marsha Turner (Douglas) and Ms. Krystal Jenkins (Ronald); close family friends, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Cason of Chesapeake and Ms. Vivian Wood of Chesapeake; and a host of friends and acquaintances. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at First Baptist, Bute Street, with the Rev. Robert Murray officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery .
