Norfolk Ledger Dispatch February 7, 1955

William Samuel Ferguson, 80, husband of Mrs. Bertha Commander Ferguson and 
formerly associated with the cotton brokerage firm of Reid and Company here, 
died at the residence, 1212 North Fairwater Drive, yesterday at 4:15 p.m. after 
an illness of several years.
The son of William K. and Mrs. Catherine Face Ferguson, he was a lifelong 
resident of Norfolk. Until his retirement in 1941, he was head cotton grader 
with the brokerage firm and was known as "dean of cotton graders" at the old 
Cotton Exchange here. He had served on arbitration committees in various cotton 
markets in the South.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Miss Mary H. Ferguson, of 
Norfolk. 
Funeral services will be held at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tomorrow at 
4 p.m. by the Rev. Edward H. Jones, D.D., pastor of the First Presbyterian 
Church and the Rev. Royce K. McDonald, pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church. 
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Sunday, February 6, 1955, at 4:15 p.m., WILLIAM SAMUEL FERGUSON, husband of Mrs. 
Bertha Commander Ferguson, and son of the late William K., and Mrs. Catherine 
Face Ferguson, in the 81st year of his age. Services at the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, TUESDAY at 4 p.m. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery.
