He had been in ill health for a number of months. He was born 53 years ago in Gioiosa Marea, Messina, Italy, and came to the United States in his youth. He established himself in the antique furniture business in Norfolk more than 28 years ago. He had studied wood-carving and cabinet-making from his early boyhood and was considered among the finest artists in that line. With his appreciation of the beautiful art, he brought with him from Italy a fine sense of citizenship. He took a leading part in the Americanization of many people from his homeland, cherishing high ideals in business, government and human relationships. He was one of the charter members of Roma Lodge, Sons of Italy, and was Grand Venable of the Italian Lodges of Virginia for many years. Mr. Ferlazzo also was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Surviving him, besides his daughter, are five sons, Louis Ferlazzo, of Greensboro, N. C.; Anthony Ferlazzo and Emmanuel Ferlazzo, of Norfolk, and Frederick Ferlazzo and Julius Ferlazzo, students at the University of Richmond; three brothers, Vincent Ferlazzo, associated with him in the antique business here; Anthony Ferlazzo, of New York, and Peppino Ferlazzo, of Italy, and two grandchildren. The body will be brought to Norfolk for funeral services and burial.
