Bernard Fernandez, 78, of 2913 East Ocean View Avenue, retired Navy veteran of the 
Spanish-American and World Wars I and II, died yesterday at 8:30 a.m. in a Norfolk 
hospital.
Born in Portugal, he was a son of the late Antonio and Mrs. Marcie-anna Fernandez. 
He had been a resident of Norfolk 60 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Cook Fernandez; two sons, James A. Fernandez 
and George L. Fernandez; three daughters, Mrs. Angela Chapman, Mrs. Maria Yielding 
and Mrs. Charlotte McCabe; and two grandchildren, all of Norfolk; and one brother, 
Caindo Fernandez, of Portsmouth.
The body will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Holy Trinity 
Catholic Church, Ocean View, for funeral services tomorrow at 10 a.m. Burial will 
be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services will be held tonight at 7:30 o’clock at 
the funeral apartments.
