He was born Sept. 29, 1915, at 611 Middle St., Portsmouth, to Angelina and Antonio Festa. Blackie married Mary Frances Festa in 1939, who predeceased him in 1999. He owned Miller's Shoe Service at Wards Corner. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Norfolk, and a member of the Italo-American Lodge No. 1077. He was a professional race car driver from 1946 to 1966. He was a member of ARDC, USAC and NASCAR. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include two sons, Andrew J. Festa Jr. and Richard Earl Festa; two sisters, Angie Hughes and Theresa Hopkins; a brother, Ralph Festa; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Jim Kruc. Private burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
