After a police investigation the death was listed officially as a suicide and City Coroner C.D.J. MacDonald said no inquest will be held. Mr. Ficarra's body was found in the front hallway of his home, just inside the front door, by his wife who had received a telephone call downtown from her husband asking her to come home, telling her that he was ill. To Mrs. Ficarra's assistance when she discovered the body went A.M. Simmons, of First View Street, who was visiting at the home of his sister across the street from the Ficarra home. A call was turned in to the police at 3:40 p.m., Detectives J.A. Winslow and H.H. Hylton responding, and Detective Leon Nowitzky arrived also to investigate on behalf of the city coroner's office. The body was removed to H.D. Oliver's Funeral Apartments. Mr. Ficarra, a native of Italy, had been a resident of Norfolk for 34 years. He was a son of the late Thomas and Mrs. Maria Tollaro Ficarra. At the time of his death, Mr. Ficarra was director of the Cavalier Hotel Orchestra. He was a member of Thomas Jefferson Lodge, Italian Benevolent Society, and the musician's union. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary LoC. Ficarra; two daughters, Evelyn and Jacqueline Ficarra; one son, Frank Ficarra, Jr.; one brother, Joseph Ficarra, of Norfolk and four sisters, Mrs. Angelo Sansone, of Norfolk; Mrs. Joseph Griffo and Mrs. Joseph Vescosi, of New York and Mrs. Carmelo Lavena, of Italy. Complete story of death in Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark November 14, 1935 ******************************************************************************** Frank Ficarra — Funeral services for Mr. Ficarra, whose death occurred Wednesday afternoon at the residence, 520 Rhode Island avenue, were held at 10 o’clock yesterday morning at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leo J. Ryan, pastor, officiating. There was a very large attendance and a profusion of floral offerings. The casket was covered with a pall of white chrysanthemums and ferns. During the service, Mrs. Frank McLaughlin sang, "Abide With Me,” with Mrs. C. R. Davies, accompanist. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The honorary pallbearers were A. Obici, Dr. R. C. Ruggieri, Bristow Harding, Henry Whitehead, Dr. F. P. Smart, Norman R. Hamilton, Hugo Bernagozzi, J. M. Cacace, Sam Silberman, Joseph Demma, John Pezzella, G. DiGirolamo, Samuel Simmons, John Briola, D. Tocci, J. Resta, M. Lagiglia, H. N. Zincone, Thomas Casale, Frank Lofurno and J. Charlesworth. Active pallbearers were Kirby Smith, Harold Meath, V. Ferlazzo, T. Spicuzza, S. Cicero, J. Penella, N. Toscano, E. Caminero. Delegations were present from the various organizations of which Mr. Ficarra was a member.
