Mary Fields of Norfolk Health Care Center died April 18, 2004. 

She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late John R. Newby and 
Elizabeth H. Newby. She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she 
served as president of the Missionaries for several years and was a member of 
the Senior Choir. 

She was the widow of Willie Fields Sr. and was predeceased by a daughter, Mary 
Forbes; two sons, Willie Jr. and Earl Fields Sr. Her survivors include five 
granddaughters, Evelyn Wills and Diane Fields, both of Norfolk, Eleanor Hawkins 
of Virginia Beach, Beverly Bonner of Portsmouth and Sandra Clark of Richmond; 
four grandsons, Emmet Forbes of Virginia Beach, Earl Fields Jr. of Bushkill, 
Pa., Norris Fields and Eric Wyatt, both of Norfolk; a daughter-in-law, Lee 
Chatman of Norfolk; four nieces, two nephews and 15 great-grandchildren. 

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday in Jerusalem Baptist Church followed by 
burial at Calvary Cemetery . The family will receive friends at 3732 Pinebark 
Road, Portsmouth. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
