A native of Portsmouth, he lived in Tidewater all of his life. He was the husband of Mrs. Helen Wulzer Fishel and a son of the late Franklin J. and Mrs. Eva Heise Fishel. He was a civilian employee of Norfolk Naval Air Rework Facility 27 years. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Norfolk Moose Lodge 39, Legion of Moose 199, and Tidewater Emergency Radio Rescue and Assistance Club, and a volunteer fireman of Station 3, Chesapeake. Besides his widow, surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Catherine F. Wolford of Richmond, Miss Theresa A. Fishel and Miss Tina M. Fishel of Norfolk; three sons, J. Fred Fishel Jr. and James E. Fishel of Norfolk and F. Steve Fishel of Hampton; and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Clark and Mrs. Thelma Dixon of Portsmouth. The Rosary will be recited Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Smith & Williams Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
