Miss Hilda Fisher, teacher at the Lott Carey School, Norfolk, and veteran of
many years with the Norfolk public school system, died Friday, March 20, at noon
at  her residence, 608 Chapel street, after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 23, at First Baptist Church, Bute
street, at 3 p.m. with the pastor, the Rev. E. Paul Simms, officiating.

The daughter of Robert S. and Mrs. Mary E. Fisher, Miss Fisher received her
early schooling in the city’s public schools.  She took advanced training at
Hampton Institute and earned her A. B. degree from Virginia Union University.

For many years she taught at the J. H. Smythe School, later transferring to the
Lott Carey School, where she remained until illness intervened.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bute street, the “Do All You Can
Club” of the church and the Dorcas Class of the Sunday school.  She also was a
member of the Amici Club and a member of the Norfolk City Federation of Colored
Women’s Clubs.

Miss Fisher is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mary E. Fisher;  three sisters, Miss
Grace Fisher and Mrs. Martha Cleary, New Rochelle, NY, and Mrs. Mary Bess, Mt.
Vernon, NY;  and one brother, James Fisher, who teaches at State College,
Savannah, Ga.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with B. F. King Funeral Home in charge of funeral
arrangements.
