He lived in the 800 block of Graydon Avenue and was the husband of the late Mrs. Pearl Harris Fitchett. Dr. Fitchett was a native of Northampton County on Virginia's Eastern Shore and grew up in Cape Charles, where his father, the late Beverly T. Fitchett, was a potato broker. After the public schools in Cape Charles, Dr. Fitchett attended Locust Dale Academy in Madison County. From there he went to the University of Virginia where he graduated from the Medical School in 1915. He interned in the University hospital, served in the Army Medical Corps in World War I and then came to Norfolk to practice. Dr. Fitchett was a member of the Norfolk County and Virginia medical societies and the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. He held staff positions at DePaul, Norfolk General and Leigh Memorial hospitals during his career and was a consultant to what is now the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital. He also was a member of the Seven Society of the University, the secret philanthropical society whose members' names are announced only at their deaths. He was an Episcopalian. He is survived by a son, Dr. Claiborne W. Fitchett of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. James Lynam of Cape Charles, Mrs. George Fosque of Onancock and Miss Susan Fitchett of Richmond; and a brother, Beverly T. Fitchett Jr. of Asheville, N.C. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Sydney S. Swann Jr. with H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments officiating.
