Mr. Fitzgerald was born in Danville, Va., and was the son of the late John A. and Callie Mae Thompson Fitzgerald. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a Methodist. He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United Machinist Union. Mr. Fitzgerald retired as an aircraft mechanic with the Naval Air Rework Facility, and also had been employed with the Southland Corporation. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marionette L. Fitzgerald; three daughters, Gatha M. Moore of Chesapeake, Earlene L. Holton and her fiance, Dennis M. Beckloff, of Virginia Beach and Janet F. Barham and her husband, Jeffery, also of Chesapeake; and a brother, John A. Fitzgerald Jr. of Norfolk. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the family plot at Elmwood Cemetery, Princess Anne Road and Monticello Avenue, Norfolk, by the Rev. Tom Mercer.
