FITZ-GIBBON, 86, LEADER OF ARCHITECTS VIRGINIA BEACH - T. David Fitz-Gibbon, 86, of 313 51st St., former president of the Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, died Friday in his home. He was a native of Norfolk and a lifelong resident of the area. Fitz-Gibbon, who graduated from St. Mary's Academy of Norfolk, attended Mount St. Joseph's College, Baltimore, Maryland Architectural Institute and Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1921, he became a founder of Carlow, Browne & Fitz- Gibbon, with which he was associated until 1936, when he entered independent practice. He collaborated in the design of De Paul Hospital, First Lutheran Church of Norfolk and Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences and was designer of Mayflower Apartment Building, Virginia Beach, the Smith-Douglass office building, Norfolk, and James Barry Robinson Home for boys. He had been chairman of the board of trustees of Barry Robinson since 1945 and was a member of Princess Anne Country Club, Engineers Club of Hampton Roads and Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church. He served on a committee to simplify and reorganize the plumbing code of Norfolk and, since 1946, was a member of the Plumbing Appeal and Electrical Examining boards. A joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Norfolk. A rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Star of the Sea School, Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, General Hospital of Virginia Beach Foundation or a favorite charity. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Virginia Beach, is in charge. DEATHS FITZ-GIBBON, THOMAS DAVID - In his residence, 313 51st St., Virginia Beach, Thomas David Fitz-Gibbon, son of Thomas Shanahan and Mrs. Mary Cregan Fitz-Gibbon, in the 87th year of his age. The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Rd., to Star of the Sea Catholic Church for services today (Monday) at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
