Mr. Flaherty owned and operated Flaherty Exxon Service Station for 28 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Order of the Alhambra Padul 69 and Ancient Order of the Hibernians. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a graduate of Holy Cross College. Survivors include his wife, Betty W. Flaherty; four daughters. Winifred E. Flaherty of Virginia Beach, Margaret F. Garrison of Vail, Colo., Rosemary F. Silverman of San Francisco, Calif., and Jodie F. Moon of Lexington, Ky.; two sons, Patrick L. Flaherty and James L. Flaherty, both of Orlando, Fla.; his parents, Mamie and Charles E. Flaherty Sr.; and 10 grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Acious Smith. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Norfolk. A Christian wake will be held at 7 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk.
