Fleming passed away at his home on Fortieth street at 8 o'clock yesterday morning after an illness of three months, in the 60th year of his age. Mr. Fleming was born in Princess Anne county, but, when he was about 3 years old, his parents moved to Gloucester county, where his youth and early manhood were spent. On the breaking out of the war between the North and the South, he enlisted in the Confederate service as a private in Company F, Thirty-Sixth Virginia Infantry, and continued in active service during that memorable period, participating in all the battles in which his regiment was engaged and surrendered with General Lee's army at Appomattox Courthouse, April 9th, 1865. After receiving his parole, he returned to his home in Gloucester county and later was married to Miss Catherine Alice Teagle, of that county, the two living most happily together as husband and wife for thirty-five years. In December, 1900, he moved with his family to Lambert's Point, where he has since resided. He was a most excellent citizen and exemplary Christian and was a member of the Methodist church. He is survived by a widow and ten children, all daughters, seven of whom are married, his youngest single daughter being in the 13th year of her age. The funeral will be solemnized from the residence at 3 o'clock this afternoon, and will be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. C. H. McGhee. The interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
