A retired mail clerk and courier for Bank of Virginia, now Signet, with 38 years service, Mr. Flowers was a native of Dendron, Va. He was the son of Samuel W. and Angie Thompson-Flowers. He was the widower of Addie L. Lightfoot Flowers and a member of Greater Metropolitan AMEZ. Mr. Flowers was active in many phases of church activities during his years as a member, including the men's Bible class, church treasurer, trustee board and superintendent of the church school. He was a doorman at the Hague Towers for many years, and during World War II, he was a mail guard for the United Nations Depot. Survivors include a devoted son, Samuel W. Flowers Jr. of the home; two nieces, Mildred Bently and Rhonda Flowers; and a nephew, John Flowers. He was predeceased by his daughter, Doris Flowers-Jones. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Greater Metropolitan AMEZ, Brambleton Ave. at Pulaski St., by the Rev. C. Bernard Crawford. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday in Riddick Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
