FORBES, ONCE HEADED PIERCE-ARROW Myron Edson Forbes, 86, former president of Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Co. and a resident of Norfolk many years, died Saturday in Pasadena, Calif. A native of Jarvisburg, N.C., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Janie S. Forbes and a son of Andrew Jackson and Mrs. Margaret Daisy Jarvis Forbes. His first job, in 1893 was in the business office of the old Norfolk Landmark, He was married in Norfolk in 1901. In 1909 he became a certified public accountant in Chicago. In 1919 he rose to treasurer of Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Co. and in 1922 became its president. He stepped out of the presidency in 1929 after the stock market crashed and the company was acquired by Studebaker Corp. At 78 he still was active in real estate in Buffalo, N.Y. He retired several years ago at Pasadena. In a 1957 interview, he said the Pierce-Arrow was the "aristocrat" of the automobile field and far ahead of its time. He said all presidents from Taft to Hoover preferred Pierce- Arrows. A brother, Charles H. Forbes, was a barber here many hears. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James A. Reeves and Mrs. Stephen Turner of Pasadena; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
