He was the retired owner of the Frank R. Ford Jewelry Store in Norfolk. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Charles Linwood Ford and Grace MacKimmie Ford. Mr. Ford was a member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, was a past worshipful master of Ruth Masonic Lodge, No. 89, a member of Grice Commandry No. 16, Knights Templar, John Walters Royal Arch Chapter No. 68, and Khedive Shrine Temple. He was a past president of the Virginia Jewelers Association and was named in the "Who's Who" of the jewelry industry. He was also a member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club and was a former member of the board of directors for the Tidewater Better Business Bureau, Tidewater Heart Association, Tidewater Multiple Sclerosis Society, Retail Merchants Association and the Downtown Norfolk Association. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was the second junior vice commander of the Bernard Hines Chapter No. 21 of Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Winifred Bodnam Ford; two daughters, Elaine Ford Brunson and her husband, Duffy, of Paeonian Springs, Va., and Catherine Ford Moss and her husband, John, of Norfolk; a son, John Richard Ford Jr. and his wife, Lin, of Norfolk; 10 loving grandchildren; and a cousin, William Elliott of Syracuse, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church by Dr. John R. Monroe. Burial will be private in Elmwood Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hampton Roads Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the American Cancer Society. Cox Funeral Home is in charge.
