Born on Sept. 4, 1923, in Granite City, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Fairy Duncan Bodnam and Brinley O. Bodnam, and was the widow of John Richard Ford Sr. Mrs. Ford graduated from Granite City High School, Class of 1941, later joining the Nurses Cadet Corps and graduated from Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. During her career she did private duty, general hospital staff nursing, office nursing, and was the first school nurse for Old Dominion College, now O.D.U. She was a member of Royster Presbyterian Church, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, Edgewater Civic League, Edgewater Garden Club, and a circle of The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Elaine F. Brunson and her husband Duffy of Paeonian Springs, Va., and Catherine F. Moss and her husband John of Greenville, N.C.; a son, John Richard Ford Jr. and his partner Suzanne of Newport News; a sister, Gwen B. Weltge and her husband Wilfred of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Brinley Edward Bodnam and his wife Marilyn of Granite City, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church by Dr. John R. Monroe. Burial will be private in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6901 Newport Ave., Norfolk, VA 23505. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
