Norfolk Daily Landmark May 21, 1889
Mr. John E. Foster, after a protracted illness, which he bore with that Christian 
resignation characteristic of his life, expired at his home, on Liberty street, 
Sunday morning at 9 o'clock. His funeral will take place today at the M. E. Church 
at 11 o'clock and will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. B. F. Lipscomb.

Additional Comments:
His cemetery card shows his first name as Josiah, but no obituary can be found for 
a person with that name, so either the paper got it wrong or the cemetery did.
