John Baldwin Foster, 66 years of age, a captain of the Norfolk County ferry fleet for thirty years and one of the best known residents of this city died last night at 10 o'clock at his home, 210 Chestnut Street after an illness lasting since last winter. Captain Foster was in the oyster business operating several boats from Mathews County to Baltimore before entering the ferry service. He was a son of the late Captain Baldwin and Mrs. Rebecca Foster of Mathews County, his people being among the foremost residents of the county. He had lived here thirty-four years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Estelle Herbert Foster and the following sons, Capt. Herbert R. Foster, of New York, a lieutenant of the U.S. Naval Reserves, Capt. C.B. Foster, of the Virginia Pilot association, Lipscomb Foster, also a lieutenant in the reserves, located in New York, Russell S. and Frank Foster, four grandchildren, two brothers, W. Shepherd Foster, of the Virginia Pilot association and Capt. Edwin Foster, of Mathews County. The funeral arrangements had not been completed last evening. ********************************************************************* The funeral of Captain John Baldwin Foster will be conducted at the family residence, 210 Chestnut Street, this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock by Rev. S.J. Battin, pastor of Memorial Methodist Church, and Rev. R.R. Phelps, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery and will be private. John Baldwin Foster was conducted at the family residence, 210 Chestnut Street, yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, Rev. S.J. Battin, pastor of Memorial Methodist Church, and Rev. R.R. Phelps, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating. The attendance was quite large and there were a profusion of flowers. Interment was in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery and the pallbearers were: Active: Capt. H.R. Foster, Capt. C.B. Foster, Lipscomb Foster, Frank D. Foster, Shepherd Lowe Miller, J.R. Seemer, Hugh Foster and W.E. Thompson. Honorary - J.J. Ottley, Major M.C. Keeling, Captain Gregory, Mr. Overman, H.O. Billups, Captain Johnson and Charles E. Wicks.
