A short time ago Lilian Foutz came here from Salem, Va. She had been led from the paths of rectitude and virtue and she saw nothing in life for her but the road which leads downward. Not caring to disgrace the name of her parents, she assumed the name of Mabel Paige when she arrived in Norfolk. The life she chose did not suit her; she mourned for the happiness of a quiet and peaceful existence at Salem, but feared to go home, not realizing that her mother would willingly receive her back to the old homestead. This fear resulted in drink and drink ended in the desire to take her life. This she accomplished last night. At 6:30 o'clock she took a huge dose of opium and at an early hour this morning she breathed her last. The body was turned over to undertaker Smith and her parents were notified. The suicide took place at No. 16 Mosely street. The dead girl was 25 years of age.
