He was born in Tuskegee, Ala., to the late Ruth Delaney and Charles R. Foxx Sr. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Barbara B. Foxx who raised him from the age of four and a half; his half-brother, Bernard Harris; his aunts, Rebecca McPhatter, Annie Givens; great-aunt, Grace Bowling Penn; his uncle, Perry Foxx; and sisters-in-law, Annie M. Lee and Helen I. Lee Campbell. Charles Foxx graduated from Booker T. Washington High School (1962), Norfolk State University (1968) and Kansas State College in clinical psychology. He retired from Foxx Real Estate in 2008. He was a member of First Baptist Church, 418 Bute St., Norfolk. He is survived by his loving wife, Julia Lee Foxx of almost 43 years; his niece/daughter, Michelle Lee Woodberry (Samuel) of St. Mary's, Ga.; aunt, Margaret Scott of Selma, Ala.; his uncle, Gregory Foxx (Peggy) of Seattle; cousins, Annette L. Givens of Midway, Ga., Margaret Broadax (Grady) of Selma, Ala., Frederick Burley (Thelma) of Washington, D.C., Richard H. Bowling IV of Greensboro, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Bernice Lee-Hopkins (Keith) of Norfolk, Rosa L. Manuel of Lowell, Mass.; brothers-in-law, Robert B. Lee III (Margaret) of Hampton, Melvin J. Lee (Cherry) of Richmond, Rudolph J. Lee (Gail) of Upper Malboro, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We the family will cherish the memories of his love for family, photography, and his favorite sports teams: Miami Dolphins, Mets, and the NSU Spartans, both football and basketball. The family thanks the doctors and staff at the Virginia Oncology Association of Norfolk for their services spanning over several years and the hospice committee at Sentara Leigh Hospital. The viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Hale Funeral Home, followed by the wake from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at First Baptist Church, 418 Bute St., Norfolk.
