Freeman, Marine Surveyor, Succumbs at 75 George Robert Freeman, 75, marine surveyor, died Monday at 5:20 p.m. in a Norfolk hospital. A resident of Norfolk for 30 years, he was successively superintendent of the Virginia Iron Works, business partner of Capt. John D. Leitch and upon Captain Leitch's retirement in 1922, in business for himself. A native of Liverpool, England, he served in the British Navy during World War I. He was with the fleet when it was blockaded in Archangel, Russia and was in the Battle of Jutland. Mr. Freeman was representative of the Bureau Veritas and of Lloyds of London in Norfolk for some years. He retired in 1944 for reasons of health. His residence was 608 West Princess Anne Road. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Malanie Freeman; six daughters, Mrs. G.S. Lowry, of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. W.G. Scott, Mrs. James S. Mathias and Mrs. John Bahlman, all of Norfolk; Lt. Theodora Freeman, USAF, and Miss Anne Freeman, of Norfolk. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. *************************************************************************** George R. Freeman — Funeral services for Mr. Freeman, who died Monday, were conducted at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, yesterday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Paul B. Heller. Present in the Sanctuary were the Rev. E. W. Johnson, the Rev. Francis Klemmer, and the Rev. Richard Rivard. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joseph Phillips, Julian Kaufman, Patrick Gilmore, Robert Hasler, I. E. Feldman, LeRoy Ober, Raymond F. Carroll, Arthur Hitch and Lawrence Bunch.
