She married and was the loving wife of the late Brown Freeman. They were blessed with five children. Having lived a full and successful life, an obituary can only highlight the memories of her life, love, family and achievements. Annie Freeman 's professional and vocational ventures began following her graduation as she taught general studies until 1917. She went on to become the owner and proprietor of Freeman's Market for 35 years. In 1949, she closed that business and started private duty nursing. She was also a member of the Order of Tents and the Queen Esther, New Saint Thomas Wheat Chapter of the Eastern Star. Ms. Freeman spent many of her later years joyfully caring for her adult son, Thomas Freeman, who had experienced neurological impairment as a result of a car accident at an infant. Her efforts to keep him healthy, educated and in the house of God are a testimony to her character and her love for all people. She was a devoted member of the New Calvary Baptist Church for over 70 years. While attending New Calvary, she served as a missionary and sang in the Gospel and Early Morning choirs. Ms. Freeman loved the Lord and always found opportunity to share her faith with those she met. She was especially fond of the younger generation. One of her heart's desires was in her words, ``to see the year 2000 and see what the young people were doing.'' Thank God, He honored her request and gave her two more years with us. Annie Cora Freeman departed this life on Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at the full age of 102 years old with her heart full and at peace with God. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Marian White and husband Floyd L. White Sr. of Chesapeake; a stepson, Joseph Freeman of Virginia Beach; a sister-in-law, Otelia Thornton of Norfolk; two granddaughters, Marian Robinson of Portsmouth and Muriel Lenard of Chesapeake; a grandson, the Rev. Floyd L. White Jr. and wife Wanda of Chesapeake; nine great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Annie Cora Freeman's life can be truly a witness to the song: ``May the work I've done speak for me, May the work I've done speak for me, When I'm resting in my grave, There is nothing that can be said, May the work I've done speak for me.'' A funeral will be held at noon Tuesday in New Calvary Baptist Church. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
