Norfolk Virginian Pilot June 25, 1943

John Puga Freire, aged 48, husband of Mrs. Alba Gomez Freire, a native of 
Coruna, Spain, and a resident of Norfolk for 25 years, died yesterday morning at 
9:40 o'clock at the residence, 616 Market Street. Besides his wife, Mrs. Alba 
Gomez Freire, he is survived by a son, John Puga Freire, Jr. and a daughter, 
Miss Carmelita Freire. The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, to St. Mary's Catholic Church, for funeral 
services Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Mary's 
Cemetery.

John Puga Freire — Funeral services for Mr. Freire, who died Thursday morning at 
the residence, 616 Market street, were held at 10 o'clock yesterday morning at 
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. F. V. Bambrick officiating. The Rev. 
P. C. Blackburn was present in the sanctuary. Several selections were sung by 
the choir of St. Mary's Academy, with Mrs. Joseph Lex as organist. Burial was in 
St. Mary's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Antonio Fernandez, Jesus Diaz, Jose 
Concelo, Steven Nikitas, Policarpio Cabezal and Joaquin Mosquera.
