Norfolk Virginian March 11, 1876
On Friday afternoon, at 3 1/2 o'clock, of dropsy, Mrs. EMELINE FRENCH, a native 
of Elizabeth City, N.C., aged 53 years.
Her funeral will take place SUNDAY AFTERNOON at 3 o'clock, from the residence of 
her son-in-law, Wm. Roper, 33 Widewater street. Friends and acquaintances are 
invited to attend.

Farewell, mother, Oh! farewell.
You have gone from earth to Heaven to dwell:
Soon I will meet you on that shore
Where parting will never come no more.
Farewell, mother, Oh! farewell.
You with Jesus have gone to dwell,
Free from sorrow, sickness, pain and care.
We, thy children, will meet you there.


Additional Comments:
There is a discrepancy between the date of death calculated from the obituary 
(published on Saturday, the 11th) and that recorded in the VA Death Register.
