Anne was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Thomas and her parents, Isaac and Pepi Altenhaus of Antwerp, Belgium. Anne is survived by her four sons, Barry and his wife Linda Peck, Brian and his wife Ingeresa, Bruce and Emily and Bobby; and her six grandchildren, Neal, Cole, Sarah, Rachel, Elli and Ethan. She also leaves behind her dear younger sister, Mina and her husband Norman; as well as many relatives and friends who will always miss her infectious humor, personality and smile. Anne retired after more that 20 years with Virginia Beach Social Services, but her favorite job was raising and treasuring her children and grandchildren. Anne was a survivor of the Holocaust who lost her parents at an early age. Despite this tragedy, she had a positive outlook on life and was always grateful for the gift of life and family. She gave freely of her time educating others about the tragedies she and her sister experience by speaking to countless schoolchildren over the last 30 years. Anne recorded her story in her memoir, "My Name is Anne Too." Arriving with her sister in 1946 as an orphan, who spoke not a word of English, Anne quickly adapted to her new country and forged a remarkable life that speaks for itself. Anne may have given birth to four boys, but through her loving and kind spirit she was a mom to many. Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Ohef Sholom Temple, 530 Raleigh Ave., Norfolk. The burial will follow at B'Nai Israel Cemetery on Cromwell Road. The family will sit Shiva at the home of Barry and Linda, 5612 Shenandoah Ave., Norfolk. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
