Norfolk - James Edward Fulford of 1149 Wilson road, retired postal letter
carrier and Masonic, civic, and church leader, died Dec. 26 in a hospital.

A native of Berkley, he was a son of the late Walter and Mrs. Elizabeth Archer
Fulford and the husband of the late Mrs. Annie B. Fulford.

He was a graduate of Norfolk Mission College.

He was chairman emeritus of the Steward Board of St. John AME Church, a past
keeper of record and seals of Ebenezer Masonic Lodge 66, a senior past worthy
grandmaster of the Grand Lodge of Virginia, past commander in chief and
inspectator general of 33rd-Degree work of United Supreme Council (Grand Orient)
Washington, and a member of Alpha and Omega Consistory 9.

He was a past grand high priest of King Cyrus Grand Royal Arch Charter of
Virginia, past grand commander of King Baldwin Grand Commandery, past
illustrious potentate of Arabian Temple 12 of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and
past grand worthy patron of Elizabeth Eastern Star Chapter 34.

Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow, National
Brotherhood of Scouts, Hunton Branch of YMCA, and Norfolk NAACP Chapter and a
life member of Cohesion RAM Chapter 14.

Surviving are two sons, Army Sargeant First Class Curtis D. Fulford of Ft.
Benning, GA, and Canon Fergus M. Fulford of St. Augustine Rectory, Camden, NJ;
eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Dec. 29 in St. John AME Church, Bute Street, by the
Rev. A. R. Powell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Chatman Funeral Home
in charge.
