Funk Dies; Retired Underwriter Donald Dewey Funk, 55, of 1330 Monterey Avenue, retired Underwriters' official, died yesterday at 2 p.m. in a Norfolk hospital. Until his retirement in 1954, he had served for 35 years as vice president of the U.S. Epperson Underwriting Company and Universal Underwriters Company, of Kansas City, Mo. He was Eastern manager with offices in the Royster Building. A native of Kansas City, he was a son of Lafayette Lee Funk and the late Mrs. Nellie Dewey Funk. He had been a resident of Norfolk since 1940 and was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church and its Wesleymen's Bible Class. He was a member of the Norfolk Executives Club, the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, the Virginia Automotive Trade Association and the Automobile Old Timers Club. Besides his father, surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virgilia Wilson Funk; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Funk Hilbert, of Kansas City; and two nieces, Miss Dorothy Lee Hilbert and Mrs. Gordon E. Moore, both residing in Europe. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
