A native of Loudoun County, he was a son of John William Thompson Furr and Mrs. Mary Frances Frasier Furr and the husband of Mrs. Rosa Lee Happer Furr. Educated in the public schools of Loudoun County, he attended business college in Washington and came to Norfolk in 1907. He was a first lieutenant with the 80th Division in France during World War I. Upon his return to Norfolk, he and the late Harvey L. Lindsay established the firm of Furr & Lindsay. When it was dissolved, Furr became president of Furr Realty Co., Inc., and vice president of Furr, Lindsay & Gray, Inc. He was a past president of Norfolk Real Estate Board, a former vice president of Virginia State Real Estate Association, and a member of National Association of Real Estate Boards and American Society of Appraisers. He was one of the founders and a charter member of Southern Bank of Norfolk, now First Virginia Bank of Tidewater; a member of Norfolk Civil War Centennial Committee; and a former president of Norfolk Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution. He was a former member of Sons of Confederate Veterans, American Legion, Military Order of the World, and Knights of the Round Table; He was a former president and an honorary director of Norfolk Central YMCA, a former senior warden of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, a trustee of Episcopal Southern Diocese of Virginia, and a former member of Norfolk Yacht and Country Club and Virginia Club. He was a past vice president of Norfolk German Club and a former member of Virginia Camelia Society and Norfolk Horticultural Society. In 1959, he was one of 100 civic leaders who petitioned the City Council to reopen the schools after they had been closed in the integration dispute. He retired from business in 1967 because of ill health. Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, Dr. John Happer Furr of Norfolk; three brothers, Guy Littleton Furr of Roanoke, Lester T. Furr of Decatur, Ga., and Blakely H. Furr of Loudoun County; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph J. Kottinger of San Francisco, Mrs. Edward C. Dishman of Warrenton, and Mrs. Gerald C. Morgan of Hyattsville, Md.; and seven grandchildren. A funeral service will be held today at noon at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, of which he was a member, by the Rev. Roger C. Snyder. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments has charge.
