Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, December 6, 2001 
Vernetta Y. Gainer passed away Dec. 3, 2001, at a local hospital.

She was born in Norfolk on Sept. 17, 1944. She was the daughter of Lois Watkins
Love and the late Vernon R. Love. She was a member of New Saint Mark Baptist
Church where she served on the Senior Usher Board. She was employed at the U.S.
Postal Service for more than 20 years. She was a graduate of Booker T.
Washington High School and attended Norfolk State University. Vernetta served as
secretary of the Charles Peete League for more than 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Gainer; two daughters, Angela Gainer and
Deneen Harris; a son-in-law, Nathaniel Harris; two granddaughters, Avis and
Autumn Harris, all of Virginia Beach; her mother, Lois Love; a sister, Cheryl
Love; two brothers, Kenneth and Oliver Love; two aunts, Shirley Walker, all of
Norfolk and Evone Lovitt of Virginia Beach; a great-aunt, Thelma Perry of
Norfolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Metropolitan Funeral Home, Granby
Street, with burial at Calvary Cemetery . Visitation will be Friday and Saturday
from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
