Norfolk - Mrs. Alice Izona Gaines, 74, of 1440 W. 44th street, who died in a 
local hospital Aug. 7, received final rites Sunday at First Baptist Church, 
Lamberts Point.

The Rev. J. Jasper Freeman, pastor of Queen Street Baptist Church, officiated 
at the service.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Pretlow 
Funeral Home.

A native of Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Gaines was a Norfolk resident 70 years.  
She was a member of First Baptist, its Missionary Society, Pastor’s Aid 
Society and senior Sunday school class.

She is survived by her husband, Forrest A. Gaines;  a son, Bernard Gaines;  
five daughters, Miss Beatrice Gaines, Mrs. Margaret C. Jones, Mrs. Armesia C. 
Nicholson, Mrs. Luvinia Swan, and Mrs. Olivia Griffin;  and three sisters, 
Mrs. Lula Scott, Mrs. Aurelia Moffitt and Mrs. Ella Mosby.
