Gamage died at his home, 202 Bute Street, at 2:30 o'clock yesterday morning in the 73d year of his age. The deceased was a native of Norfolk, where he resided all of his life, and where he was widely known and universally esteemed. When the War Between the States was declared Mr. Gamage entered the Confederate Service in the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues, serving with that command throughout the war, returning home at the close of hostilities. After the war Mr. Gamage engaged in the building supplies business, in which business he continued until his death and his name was a household word with the commerce of Norfolk. He was a man of unflinching integrity and of upright demeanor in all the walks of life. He was a Methodist in faith and for many years was connected with the Cumberland Street Church, this city, in an official capacity. In later years he united with Epworth Church, with which he was connected at the time of his demise. Mr. Gamage had been in feeble health for some months. He is survived by a widow, one son, John W. Gamage, two daughters, Misses Nannie and Edna Gamage, and two sisters, Mrs. Sue Clark and Miss Carrie E. Gamage, all of Norfolk. The funeral will be solemnized from his late residence at 3:20 o'clock this afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. Geo. E. Booker, D.D., of Epworth Methodist Church.
