Norfolk Virginian-Pilot  July 12, 1944

Matteo Gambardella, husband of Mrs. Josephine Picone Gambardella, died at a 
local hospital last night at 9:30 o'clock. Mr. Gambardella was a native of Italy 
and a resident of Norfolk, residing at 4708 Newport Avenue at the time of his 
death. Besides his wife, Mrs. Josephine Picone Gambardella, he is survived by 
four sons, Herbert Gambardella, U.S. Army; Joe Gambardella, U.S. Army; Mateo 
Gambardella, Jr., U.S. Navy and Danney Gambardella, U.S. Navy, two daughters, 
Miss Rosa Gambardella, of Norfolk and Mrs. Mary Storine, of Richmond. The body 
was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments.

Matteo Gambardella — The body of Mr. Gambardella, husband of Mrs. Josephine 
Picone Gambardella, who died Tuesday night at a local hospital, will be taken 
from the residence, 4708 Newport avenue, to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 
for funeral services this morning at 10:30 o' clock. Interment will be in St. 
Mary’s Cemetery.
