Ganey, died in Chicago, IL, Saturday morning, March 26th after a brief illness. Mrs. Ganey was one of Norfolk’s oldest and best loved citizens and up to nine years ago lived in this city. The remains, accompanied by her children arrived in Norfolk, Monday evening. The funeral services were held Tuesday at three o’clock from the home of Misses Bertha and Fannie Jones. “Abide With Me,” “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Lead Kindly Light” were sung with Miss Blanche Smith at the piano. Rev. B. W. Harris, rector of Grace Episcopal Church read the scripture lesson. Rev. R. H. Bowling, pastor of the First Baptist Church, offered prayer and Rev. G. W. Watkins, pastor of Bank Street Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a faithful member for many years offered the eulogistic remarks. The remains followed by relatives and friends were taken to West Point Cemetery and there beneath a bower of flowers was laid to rest. A lovely pall of Easter lilies and ferns, from the family, covered the entire casket and was buried in the vault with the remains. Mrs. Ganey is survived by the following children: Mrs. Florence Bowens, of Springfield MA, Mrs. Sadie Brown, Mrs. Amanda Stith and Mr. Willie Ganey Jr., Ellen and Bruce T. Bowens Jr., of Springfield, one sister, Mrs. Laura White of CT.
