W. Gantt, in No. 2 Shields street, on the 2d of July, 1890, at 6:30 a.m. Mr. HENRY L. GANTT was the eldest son of A. W. Gantt and his late wife, Mary E. Jefferson. He was born at the old and well-known homestead of the family, for over two hundred years known as Rock Castle farm, in Albemarle county, Va. Mr. HENRY L. GANTT was a grandnephew of the late Thomas Jefferson, of Monticello, Va., and also a cousin of the late Colonel Henry Gantt, of Oaklands, Va. Mr. GANTT received his education at Roanoke College, under Professor Biddle, but threw up his studies during his preparatory course for the University of Virginia and enlisted in a volunteer company and served two years in the army with credit to himself and country. He possessed great musical talent and was a young man of bright intellect and genial, happy nature. He drew many dear friends around him. His courteous manners and noble, generous nature will long remain a green spot in the memory of his many friends. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. Mr. GANTT was a great sufferer but bore his afflictions with Christian faith and patience. His malady was cancer of the stomach, brought on by an accident on the Seaboard and Roanoke railroad some years ago. He expressed a simple and childlike faith and was ready to lay down the burden of life at the Master's call. He leaves a father, one brother and two sisters to mourn his sad loss. The flowers that are culled on earth will bloom for thee more brightly in Heaven. One that loved him in life and mourned for him in death. Funeral will take place at 4 o'clock THIS AFTERNOON from the residence.
