For just at the close of service Sunday morning, September 19 at the First Baptist Church, Campostella, of which the Rev. Robert Harris is pastor, Mrs. Gardner, after having testified, suddenly collapsed and died before medical aid could be obtained. Mrs. Gardner, who was a well known citizen of the Southside, had been a member of the First Baptist Church for more than thirty-five years, and was a devout member, taking an active part in all its affairs. A strange incident about her death is that she had spoken publicly many times that she hoped her end would come in the “First Baptist Church.” Mrs. Gardner is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Maggie Baker, and a son, Arthur Whitmore, and several other adopted children. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 o’clock at the First Baptist Church, Campostella.
