Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, April 25, 2001 
Millicent Yvonne Wilson Garnette, 70, of the 400 block of Beacon Hill Circle,
entered into eternal rest on April 22, 2001.

Mrs. Garnette, a native of Norfolk, was the daughter of the late Thomas Vernon
Wilson and Florence Archer Wilson.

She received her early education in the public schools of Norfolk and was a
graduate of the Booker T. Washington, Class of 1948. She received the Bachelor
of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Elizabeth City State University,
Elizabeth City, N.C.

Mrs. Garnette retired from Norfolk Public Schools after 32 years of dedicated
service in teaching.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, where she was a member of
the Gleaners Ministry. She was also a member of the Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Mrs. Garnette leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, a daughter, Donna Garnette
Alexander; a devoted son-in-law, Winston T. Alexander Jr.; a grandson, Ryan
Garnette Alexander; a brother, James Edward Wilson; a dear aunt, Ella Archer
Saunders; a caring and compassionate cousin, Dolores Mercer; a dedicated and
devoted caregiver, Virgie Harvey; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will assemble and receive friends at 5435 Sandpiper Lane, Norfolk.
Viewing will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday in Riddick's Funeral Chapel and the
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. The
chapel is located at 1225 Norview Ave., Norfolk. A funeral will be held at 1
p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute St., Norfolk, officiated by the
Rev. Dr. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
