Norfolk Virginian Pilot December 17, 1940

Samuel M. Garrett, aged 63, died at a local hospital yesterday afternoon at 
1:35 o'clock after a long illness.  He formerly was of Blackwater, Norfolk 
County, and had resided in Norfolk for the past 25 years.  Besides his wife, 
Mrs. Mary Garrett, he is survived by three sons, LeRoy, Samuel and William 
T. Garrett, all of Norfolk; one daughter, Mrs. Emma Ezell, of California; 
one stepson, Elwood Amos; two stepdaughters, Misses Dora and Doris Amos; two 
brothers, Allen Garrett, of Princess Anne County and Theodore Garrett, of 
Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sherwood, of Norfolk and Mrs. Annie 
Nosay, of Princess Anne County and several nieces and nephews, all of 
Norfolk.  Mr. Garrett was a member of Oakdale Lodge No. 70, I.O.O.F.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the 
Paul B. Warren & Son Funeral Home, 1102 Colonial avenue.  Burial will be in 
Riverside Memorial Park.
