Garrett, died last night at 9:40 o'clock after a brief illness at the home of her cousins, the Misses M. Sue and Margaret Tatem, 427 Pendleton Street, Berkley. Mrs. Garrett had been in excellent health and was stricken with a heart attack yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. She was given treatment and was thought to have been recovering until the second attack last night. Mrs. Garrett was one of the best known women in the Southside. She not only had been identified with church activities and benevolent work, but was a beloved and esteemed member of St. Bride's Episcopal Church. In her younger life she was known to practically every home in the community where there was sickness or bereavement. Mrs. Garrett was a native of Deep Creek, Norfolk County, a daughter of N.L. and Mrs. Margaret Susan Cherry and a granddaughter of Col. Isaiah Cherry. After attending college she made her home in Berkley in the early days of the young community, where she spent the remainder of her life, becoming identified with its social and benevolent activities. In addition to the two cousins mentioned, Mrs. Garrett is survived by two children, Miss Laura Gertrude Garrett, of 427 Pendleton Street and one son, H.L. Garrett, of Jacksonville, Fla. The body was taken to the J.R. Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk, pending funeral arrangements. ************************************************************ Mrs. Mary Eleanor Garrett - Funeral services for Mrs. Garrett, widow of George H. Garrett, who died Saturday night at the home of her cousins, Misses M. Sue and Margaret Tatem, 427 Pendleton Street, Berkley, will be conducted at St. Bride's Episcopal Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery. The body will be taken from the home to the church.
